Avoca Cardinal (known to us as Sam) arrived at our property on the 16th December 1994...... He was three days old. Originally he was never supposed to stay. Friends of ours were loaning us his mother Gravanne Rose to return to Delamore Echo the sire of Black Saint. Rose was a Clydesdale Cross mare we had always loved... A lovely type of mare with fabulous movement & temperament.
As Sam developed we started to realize what a lovely type of horse he was, and so he was purchased and our breeding program started. He commenced breeding as a two year old, and has covered mares every season since then.
In 1997 he was broken in and then commenced his dressage competition in 1999 winning his first competition with 69%. He followed this up with many placings over the next 12months. At the end of the 1999/2000 competition season he was awarded the Michael Lee trophy for being the best performed Victorian Dressage Club Preliminary horse.
With limited outings he continued on through the grades, currently being graded Elementary. At this time the Agricultural Societies started introducing Clydesdale Cross rings to their shows. This is something he really loves and gets to show off his fantastic presence.
In the two seasons he has competed he has shown to have all the qualities the judges are looking for. Winning Champion led and ridden at Sunbury show in the Clydesdale Cross ring. Following this up with winning led and ridden at Red Hill show in the Clydesdale Cross ring and Champion overall. The same day winning Champion led and Reserve Champion ridden in the all breeds ring.
Cardinal will continue with his showing so stay in touch for future updates. |
